If you are bleeding from the anus and you are not sure about the causes, consult your doctor immediately as other serious illnesses also may cause the bleeding. It is preferably to make sure that there is not something more serious.

First of all you need to understand what are the causes of hemorrhoids in order to prevent them. Here is a summary of things you can do to stay away from hemorrhoids:

•    Avoid straining during bowel movements.
•    Make use of stool softener if needed.
•    Avoid using too many laxatives. Diarrhea also is among the causes of hemorrhoids.
•    Increase intake of high-fiber food and drink plenty of water.
•    Do daily exercises to help preventing constipation.

However, if you are suffering from hemorrhoids, always remind yourself of these things:

•    Always keep your anus area clean by wiping gently after each bowel movement. Use soft, moist toilet paper or baby wipes. And pat dry after shower, do not rub.
•    Avoid doing things that may put more pressure to the anus area such as lifting heavy objects.
•    Do not wait for the hemorrhoid to worsen to get it treated.
