Myth no.1 – Hemorrhoid can turn into cancer
Hemorrhoids are enlarged and swollen veins situated around the rectum or anal canal, whereas cancer is a group of cells that divided out of control. Hemorrhoids do not lead to cancer of the rectum, colon or colorectal. However, in some rare cases people with colorectal cancer become more susceptible to hemorrhoids because of the excess of pressure on the rectal veins inflicted by the growing tumor.
Some symptoms of hemorrhoids such as blood on the stool, rectal bleeding and rectal pain can be very similar to colorectal cancer. Please see your doctor if you are experiencing these symptoms. Hemorrhoids can be extremely uncomfortable but are not life-threatening.
Myth no.2 – Hemorrhoid is a health issue associated to older people.
Even though older people are more susceptible to have hemorrhoid, it can be a problem for anyone at any age as well.
The process of aging usually causes the vein walls of the rectum to have a tendency to weaken that is why old persons are more prone to the development of hemorrhoids. Not to forget that there are many other factors which can lead to hemorrhoid.
Myth no.3 – Anal sex create hemorrhoids
This is one of the most common misconceptions about hemorrhoids that is widely believed by many people. Anal sex does not cause hemorrhoids. On the other hand, this sexual act can trigger or worsen existing hemorrhoid symptoms.
Myth no.4 – Spicy foods can cause hemorrhoids
Spicy foods causing hemorrhoids is also common among the hemorrhoid myths. The belief that spicy food cause hemorrhoid is completely untrue. Sometime spicy foods cause liquefied stool and burning around the anus hole but this happen only temporary and do not constrict the blood vessels that make hemorrhoid to develop. Illness or poor diet that causes diarrhea may cause hemorrhoids but not spicy foods alone.
Myth no.5 – Sitting on the sidewalk can causes hemorrhoids
As banal as it may sound, sitting on the sidewalk might be the oddest of the hemorrhoid myths. It is a myth quite popular in Asian communities. This is absolutely untrue. However, sitting for hours as do desk jobs and laziness may cause hemorrhoids. But just sitting on the sidewalk for an hour or less waiting for the bus or for some other reason will not cause hemorrhoid to happen.
Myth no.6 – Black pepper causes hemorrhoids
This myth about black pepper causing hemorrhoid is also a mere misconception. Similar to spicy foods it might cause some temporally discomforts but do not constrict the blood vessels that actually make hemorrhoid to show up.
Myth no.7 – There is no hemorrhoid treatment that works
The truth is that there are various treatments that cure hemorrhoids permanently. The available treatments are either by natural remedies for hemorrhoids, rubber bands, injection sclerotherapy, infrared coagulation or by surgery (for very severe hemorrhoids). However, there are steps you can do to alleviate temporarily the symptoms of hemorrhoids, for ex. you can use a sitz bath and topical analgesic.
You can also use Venapro, a natural supplement with herbal ingredients proven to relieve the pain, itching, burning and other discomfort of hemorrhoids.
Points to remember,
• Hemorrhoids are natural; they are cushions of tissue that swell gently to facilitate the process of elimination. They are noticeable only when they begin to swell too much.
• Hemorrhoids are very common and more than half of the population will develop hemorrhoids, usually after the age 30.
• The majority person suffers in silence for a long period before seeking medical advice.
